The MCC Boyd Tandon School of Business was inaugurated today by Ms. Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon, Chairperson, Tandon Capital Associates Inc., USA and distinguished alumna of the Madras Christian College. The event was attended by Mr. K. M. Mammen, Chairman, MCC Association and Board of Directors & Chairman, MRF and Dr. P. Wilson, Principal and Secretary, Madras Christian College.
An off-shoot of the prestigious 187-year-old Madras Christian College, the B-School is spread over a 3.5-acre area adjacent to the MCC campus in Tambaram and offers a unique two year PGDM programme that promises a holistic management education that produces “Future Ready” Managers.
The PGDM programme has received approval from AICTE. The programme consists of Master Classes, Internships from the first term, mandatory Venture Creation, industry relevant curriculum, Social Immersion, liberal dose of liberal arts, international tours, state of the art infrastructure and much more.

In his opening address, Mr. K. M. Mammen, Chairman, MCC Association and Board of Directors & Chairman, MRF said, “With the way the world is investing in India, we felt the current need is to have colleges offer programs that produce industry ready. In our search for a suitable partner, we did not need to look further than Ms. Chandrika Tandon for a more passionate educator and one of MCC’s most distinguished alumni. The amount of time and effort that Ms. Tandon continues to give to the Business School is extraordinary. Her expertise and wisdom has greatly impacted the creation of a unique Business School that India can be proud of.”
The MCC Boyd Tandon Business School has just been given a matching grant of US$ 1 million by Ms. Tandon highlighting her commitment to the vision of the School. This is on top of a similar amount she gave a few years ago when the project was being put in place.

In her address, Ms. Chandrika Tandon said, “Business today needs leaders who are multidimensional which is why our PGDM program will involve interdisciplinary studies across the two years the students will spend with us. To develop these well rounded leaders, we have designed a SIGVI model for our course which stands for Social, Industry, Global, Venture and Impact readiness.
The course has three unique features not readily available elsewhere:

  • Our students will be entrepreneurs as part of the immersion process. They will develop their own projects and go through the daily rigour of functioning as entrepreneurs so that the discipline of creation and nurture is instilled in them. This will be done in collaboration with the MCC-MRF Innovation Park next door.
  • The internship model will have our students placed as interns with our industry partners right from the first semester and this will continue for the period of the course. This format will have the students attending classes in the morning and interning at their respective firms in the afternoons.
  • The students will take on anyone challenging issue that the globe currently faces and work towards real world solutions to those problems. Thinking of greater challenges outside our environment is how we want to instill a global outlook in them.
Our focus is to bring out a group of industry ready entrepreneurs who have an intense passion to solve the greater problems of the world.”

Dr. P. Wilson, Principal and Secretary, Madras Christian College, in his address, reiterated that the MCC credo of providing academic excellence, spiritual vitality and social relevance would be the founding values of the MCC Boyd Tandon Business School. In this clutter of B-Schools of all hues in the country, he said that he saw the MCC Boyd Tandon Business School as producing postgraduates that will be beacons of social significance who will make a disproportionately large impact on the world.
As part of the connection that the School is cultivating with industry, several companies have endorsed the School’s PGDM programme. Corporate leaders from well-known firms including Ashok Leyland, Allison Transmission, Axis Bank, Global Logistics, Lincoln Electric, Madras Engineering Industries, Nippon Paint, Thomas Cook, Wartsila, and Zoho also participated in the inauguration.
Dr. P. David Jawahar, Director of the MCC Boyd Tandon Business School said that the student admissions are based on the National Level Entrance examinations like the CAT / MAT / XAT / ATMA or the TANCET conducted by the Tamil Nadu Government. He added that adequate weightage is given for work experience, diversity, and exhibited leadership qualities and reiterated that there is no management quota and students are selected strictly on merit.
Based on the percentile scores, the students are invited for a group discussion and personal interview. The interview panels always have industry representatives. They plan to have 120 students joining the programme this year.
