76-Year-Old Senior Police male officer Overcomes Health Hurdles with Advanced Urolift Treatment for Prostate Enlargement at AINU Chennai

Chennai | February 2024: In a testament to the advancements in medical technology, a 76-year-old retired senior police officer recently underwent a ground-breaking UroLift treatment at the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology in Chennai. The patient, who has an extensive medical history, including a pacemaker implant, Aortic valve replacement, coronary artery disease (CAD), bronchial asthma, hypertension, and while being on blood thinners, defied all the odds to receive an advanced surgical procedure.

The Urolift procedure, renowned for its effectiveness in treating Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) Prostate enlargement, is noteworthy in this case due to the patient’s complex medical background. BPH, characterized by an enlarged prostate, can lead to a range of urinary issues, affecting the quality of life for many elderly individuals.

The Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology, known for its state-of-the-art facilities and highly skilled medical professionals, successfully executed the UroLift procedure on the patient. This minimally invasive technique involves the placement of small implants to lift and hold the enlarged prostate tissue, relieving pressure on the urethra and improving urine flow. The procedure is particularly advantageous for patients with multiple health conditions, as it reduces the risk of complications associated with traditional surgical interventions. The surgery performed by AINU team was mentored by Dr. Matt Ashley from USA who has performed more than 1,000 UroLift procedures.

Dr.Arun Kumar, Managing Director, Chief Consultant Urologist, who performed the surgery, expressed satisfaction with the successful outcome and praised the collaborative effort of the medical team. “The patient’s resilience and the precise execution of the UroLift procedure allowed us to address the patient’s urinary issues without exposing him to undue risks associated with more invasive surgeries. This is a testament to the advancements in urological care and our commitment to providing tailored solutions for each patient in our community. “The urology and anaesthesia teams at AINU Chennai meticulously coordinated with the patient’s cardiologist, pulmonologist, and other specialists to ensure a comprehensive and safe treatment process was undertaken.

UroLift has a great advantage in younger individuals with prostate issues by preserving their sexual function in whom conventional treatment method may lead to sexual dysfunction. AINU Chennai’s commitment to excellence and patient-centred care shines through in this remarkable achievement, setting a standard for the integration of innovative treatments in the management of complex health conditions.
